The Growing Demand for Refractory Removal
Climate change has been an issue debated for the past few decades. It most certainly is a hot topic. In the mid 1990’s the EU began to recognise the potential impact of waste management on climate change. This led to the UK developing the land fill tax escalator and in England, the landfill allowance trading scheme. This helped to drive the country to create a new generation of energy from waste plants (efw).
Why do Energy-from-Waste plants require Refractory Removal?
Energy- from -Waste plants generate energy in the form of heat or electricity from waste. The plant achieves this through combustion. The combustion process creates incredibly intense heat, the fire created wears away the refractory lining. Refractory removal is vital to allow inspection, repair, maintenance and replacement. With the increased amount of EWF plants over the past few decades Refractory Removal is becoming more crucial. More information on what is Refractory Removal here.
Refractory Removal Methods
There are different techniques that can be used during Refractory Removal. These include high pressure water jetting and pneumatic breakers. Here at Hydroblast we use high pressure water jetting as opposed to pneumatic breakers. For Refractory Removal we choose our Aqua Cutter 410 Robot.
The Robot is the most efficient method of Hydrodemolition. Robots don’t get tired which means less downtime for maintenance work. They are small and agile which makes it perfect for those hard to reach places.
